How Do Nerve Cells Communicate With Each Other

In nature, there are different methods of communication.  The methods of communication can be visual such as through color, between plants and pollinators, flowers that attract pollinators to them by the color of the flower.  Communication can appear through sound when flowers release a scent that attracts pollinators.
In each one of the communication methods, compatibility has to occur between the signals’ transmitter with the one that receives it.  When a bee leaves the hive for the first time, it learns that a flower with a specific color or a specific scent contains much nectar.

The nerve cells do not touch each other. The area where one nerve cell ends and another begins is known as synapse.  The gap between the nerve cells in this area is known as the synaptic gap, which measures 10 nanometers.
Along the nerve cell, the nerve impulse passes through as an electrical impulse. This impulse cannot move from one cell to another due to the synaptic gap (there is no physical continuity between the cells) therefore in the synapse region, data is transferred as a chemical signal.

Between the nerve cells that communicate with each other or with other cells through chemical communication.  A specific nerve cell secretes a chemical substance known as a neurotransmitter. This substance is absorbed on receptors that are found on the receiving nerve-cell membrane.   The connection between the neurotransmitter and the receptor on the nerve-cell membrane triggers a series of chemical processes within the cell, including processing the received data.

This method of communication between cells by way of chemical substances is universal in the animal world. In addition, the entire animal world is made up of those same basic components.  Therefore, a substance that is created by a single creature can influence and produce a reaction in another.  This interaction can also occur between plants and animals.  This principle has guided researchers, ,who examined the influence of cannabis on humans.
A substance being produced by the cannabis plant can fit the receptors that are found on cells in humans and induce a reaction.
